I’ve seen cute little mug sweaters in a couple of stores and thought, “I could make that!” So when I saw the pattern for Grandma Mae’s Mug Cozy (by Danyel Pink, CrazySocks Crochet: http://www.crazysockscrochet.com) in the 2013 Crochet Calendar that I mentioned yesterday, I decided to try it out right away! Another good way to use up some scraps of Bernat Handicrafter Cotton I’ve got sitting on my coffee table and in my tv cabinet and … well, all over the house it seems!
I started out by following the directions exactly and it only took me about an hour to complete one while I watched tv with Brian one night. The only problem is that on the mugs I own, the cozy comes up the side of the mug so high there’s nowhere to put your lips to take a sip. No problem; I know someone who has lots of mugs and surely it will fit one of those! I just made another using a smaller hook to make my gauge smaller.
The second one works okay on my mugs but it’s still not perfect. I realized this morning when I looked at the pattern picture again, that the problem is likely that the handles on my mugs are shaped differently and come up the side of the mug quite a bit higher than the mug used by the pattern designer. It’s cute enough for now but I may need to play around with it to make a pattern that fits my mugs nicer.
