Brian’s work was hosting an employee appreciation event at Calypso Water Park this past weekend. We don’t normally go to these things, especially when it’s on a Sunday (and he works Sunday night to boot) but we decided to give it a try this year.
We enjoyed free entry to the park for the whole family (just had to pay for parking and a locker rental) and a BBQ lunch in a private party area. The park is really well thought out as far as picnic tables and eating spaces, snack bars, deck chairs, and benches. There’s lots of shade when you need it and tons to do for pretty much the entire family. I didn’t participate in too much of the water frolicking because my swimsuit needs a repair job and I haven’t been able to find the part at the fabric shop yet. I need to try again this week before the kidlets want to go out for water fun again, like say for an upcoming camping trip with friends to Logos Land. Where there just so happens to be a water park. That we haven’t told the kidlets about yet. Don’t want to deal with the over-excitement phase for more than a day or two. If you’ve got little ones, you already understand this principle.
So, Calypso is a totally fun place to go with the family! It seems expensive to me (especially with littler ones like our gang who tire out after 3-4 hours) and there are cheesy costumed characters wandering around every time you turn around. But there are some amazing water play areas for the smaller folk and some slides for the adults who like having their breath taken away as they get whisked down a gushing wave of death. Totally my thing to try out next time! Imagine standing in a chamber and suddenly the floor drops out from under you. You’re immediately whisked away by gravity and the force of the water in the tube and find your body flying through a loop-de-loop before you’re deposited rather abruptly out the other end. Sign. Me. Up!
And if you’re feeling more mellow, there’s always the wave pool. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one so large! And I couldn’t get over how many deck chairs were spread out around it just waiting for the crowds to come and nap in the sun (which they did shortly after lunch)!
All around, we had a really fun day and would probably recommend this park (as long as you’re not vacationing on a budget).
