I may be the only one wandering around in this current heatwave humming along to Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye in my head. “We’re havin’ a heat wave… A tropical heat wave… The temperature’s risin’… It isn’t surprisin’…..” What can I say? I love a good black and white movie!
I haven’t gotten much done this week — especially at the sewing machine. It’s so hard to summon up the energy to do anything when it’s 40 degrees outside!! We don’t have central air so we’re making do with a little window A/C unit to keep the bedrooms cool enough to be usable and most of the house is hot, but bearable. The problem I’m finding is that I need to keep the dehumidifier running in the basement to protect my fabric and sewing patterns but that makes the basement even warmer. Oh well! You make the best with what you’ve got, right?
I only managed to sit down at the sewing table to get one little project off my list so far this week. I cut off a pair of Anna’s jeans that she’d ruined the knees on after only two months of wear (is it possible that kids jeans aren’t as high quality as they used to be? or does that just make me sound old and crank-faced?). I decided that I didn’t want to bother with a regular jean hem — too boring for a little girl who loves all things pink and shiny and flowery and pretty! I used a bit of extra pink cotton from another project that’s been languishing unfinished on my pile (I really should get around to that one soon!) and made her bermuda length shorts with a nice pink trim at the bottom.
*Note: please excuse the quality of my photos — I figure if it isn’t safe for the kids to be outside, we shouldn’t be going out just for photos in natural sunlight. Trying to keep this house as dark and cool as possible for at least another day or two…
