My sister, Faith, told me about this really great place to take the kidlets for a walk called Mer Bleue. It’s very close to our house and I’d only heard of it in passing before. There are actually a number of trails to walk at Mer Bleue but she recommended the Boardwalk trail.
We went last Saturday and it was beautiful! We highly recommend this trail for smaller children — it’s only 1.2 km from start to finish, it’s a flat trail, and you can easily take a stroller or wagon. We had perfect weather for a walk, the sun was out and it was early enough in the day to not be too hot.
The area is a highly acidic peat bog (the kidlets actually let us read all the informative plaques — that doesn’t happen often!). It’s a fragile ecosystem and it’s full of red wing black birds, turtles, frogs, water spiders, and plants more typical of the tundra.
