April Plans

Last month I didn’t quite get everything on my To-Sew List completed.  I had not foreseen the sheer amount of sickness that would invade our household!  I also forgot all about planning for Brian’s week off (I never get as much sewing done when he’s around in the evenings and not heading off to work).  Oops!

March To Sew List:
Finish gray dress pants for me
Make knit chemo hats for my nephew (and learn to use my double needle in the process)
Easter dress for Anna
Easter pants for Noah
Easter shirt for Noah
Easter shirt for Levi

So my April To Sew List needs to include the following:
Complete A-Line skirt for me from custom-drafted pattern.
Complete Anna’s bias tape skirt.
Noah’s Easter shirt.
Complete black spring/summer knit dress for me.
Attempt knit chemo hats for my nephew (and learn to use my double needle in the process)

I’m particularly excited about working on the bias tape skirt.  It’s inspired by the beauties in this book.  Want to see some party dresses that will make you think of cotton candy you can wear?  Click around the website here.  My version will be a circle skirt with a wide, exposed elastic waist band, and use bias tape in a way similar to the dress on the front cover.

I’m also looking forward to trying the black knit dress for me.  I needed two way stretch knit for the pattern and found a wonderful solid black Millicent knit at Fabricland last week.  Needless to say, I went in looking for some very inexpensive and basic supplies and came out with about $60 worth of fabric as well!  Yikes!  I really hope this pattern works out — I’d like to be able to wear the dress for Brian’s ordination service in May (it’s been a long wait, but more about that another day!).  I’ll be using the McCall’s M6353 pattern for this dress.Well, I guess that means I’m working under a fairly tight timeline this week — I’d better set myself to working on modifying a pattern so I can finish Noah’s shirt before the week is out!

    Go Sarah Go!!!

Last month was kind of a wash for me as well – woe. Too much life I guess. Slump. But am trying to climb out of it now! Here’s to a better April!!

AND – we are SO EXCITED for you guys about the ordination! Brandon and I were literally dancing around the living room. It’s been a LONG time coming and we are so thankful that it’s happening!!!

Here’s to bigger and better things – less sickness, more sewing!

What is required to make a chemo hat? Do you think he might like a crocheted hat of some kind? I could make a dinosaur, bear, bunny, tiger, owl, or possibly a zebra. Let me know what you think.

I would imagine the hats would need to be super soft because his skin is so sensitive? I am so jealous of your crochet ability – I am forever swooning over crocheted dinosaur hats! If wool is too irritating, I wonder if you could line the hat in some kind of really soft jersey knit? You could probably just tack that in by hand even.

Anyway – just thinking. And totally envious of crocheted hat ability!!!
