Creative Inspiration in Shades of Red

I was talking with the kidlets about my plans for my March To-Sew list — in particular I plan on including an Easter dress or skirt for Anna.  They were very interested in helping to decide the dress and a new outfit for Noah, too.  So I gave them paper and markers and asked them to draw me what they’d like.

Anna drew a typical princess dress with ribbons tied in bows, ruffle around the hem, pouffy sleeves, LOTS of pink…

Noah had his own ideas.

He tells me he would like a red button up, short sleeve shirt with a big pocket and a pair of long red pants with pockets on the front and back on the legs.  “They need to be red like a strawberry so I can hide in strawberries and blend in so no one will find me!”

Not sure what I can make him that looks quite like this idea…

LOL – Noah is hilarious. Did you see the vest tutorial on Project Run & Play? I’m thinking about attempting something like that in a more manly colour palette for Sammo. I love getting the kids to design stuff for me – it’s one of my favourite things in the world. (Sam sucks at it, but you know :).

don’t they have any camo with red in it? I see a military inspired button down shirt and cargo pants.

probably yes — but I’m still thinking that’s a little weird for an Easter outfit… 🙂

yeah….I’m not sure. I bet you could do some funky khakis with red pinstripes or something though – that could work!

I saw some really great quilting fabric — super bright and all covered in giant strawberries. But it might be a little too girly on pants for Noah? Not sure yet… I’m thinking of doing a pair of flat front pull on pants with big cargo pockets on the legs. Maybe make the legs roll up for shorts?
