This morning we took the kidlets to an apple orchard for pick your own apples for the first time. I think it was a big hit and although we would change where we go next year, we’ll definitely go again.
We headed out to Mountain, Ontario to Mountain Orchards where there are lots of kid-friendly activities. There’s corn mazes:
There were also crafts-y vendors and a used book sale to support the local library. There were yummy apple cider donuts. And of course a wagon ride out to the orchards:
We had a lot of fun picking. We got 20 lbs of honey gold, empire, and cortland apples.
This place was a lot of fun but a little pricey. And for someone like me (who freezes a lot of apples for the winter), only being able to buy 10 lbs or 20 lbs at a time isn’t really a good option.
After all the fun, we headed back towards Ottawa and stopped at Apple Hill Fruit Farm on Jockvale where I’ve picked up MacIntosh apples before. Their prices are great, even for pre-picked and they are still willing to sell by the bushel, even though they were a little taken aback by someone wanting 2 bushels at once. Next year, I think we’ll simply head to this place for picking. More apple-picking, fewer extra activities, better prices, still a lot of fun.
